History
Shih Tzu originates from China. It’s origins can be dated back to the 1800’s when it was developed in China during the reign of the Empress Dowager Cixi (Tz’u-shi, 1861 – 1908).
The Shih Tzu was first Registered by the AKC (American Kennel Club) in 1969. The Shih Tzu is also known by the other name of the Chrysanthemum Dog.
Dogs in the Toy Group, which include the Shih Tzu, were initially developed to ease the lifestyle and provide pleasure to rich people. These dogs were initially owned by the wealthy and were viewed by others as status symbols - a luxury item with little apparent purpose.
